The brief was to create a high impact environment within a relatively low budget constraint. The stripped back interior revealed bare brick walls, concrete columns and an original wooden parquet flooring, which we incorporated into our developed urban concept, a reflection of Oxford as a vintage British city. Using the architectural detailing and finishes formed the narrative for the interior scheme with an urban, youthful space for students to eat, drink, relax and socialise. Quirky British detailing was added in the form of telephone booth doors and original post boxes for student feedback points. To stay within the client’s budget we refurbished the existing counters, and introduced new tiled and timber cladding finishes, with illuminated and colourful signage to lift the space and highlight the food on offer.
